How to use "Saint louis" in context?
Saint Louis is the oldest major U.S. city. It was founded in 1682 by the French fur trader Louis Jolliet and his partner, Etienne de Varennes, on the east bank of the Mississippi River, near the present-day city of St. Louis, Missouri. After years of struggle, the city became a major port on the frontier and a center of European trade. During the 19th century, it became a center of industry and commerce, and its population increased rapidly. In 1904, it hosted the Worlds Fair, which was the first world's fair to be held in the United States.
